1. In my case its a 1 out of possibly six tries information technology will play a MOV file every bit it should. 3 out of 6 times it will simply play sound and show no video. ii out of half-dozen times information technology gives an mistake.

MOV files play on Quicktime.

Quicktime is no longer supported by Windows because information technology does not piece of work with windows 10.   (On purpose?  who knows.)

Since neither company (Apple tree and Microsoft) has washed anything about it, you will need to purchase the CODEC from a 3rd party.

Bad news I know.

Nope, the vlc player from the windows store doesn't support or recognize the .mov format.

I didn't suggest the modern app version, but the desktop version. The desktop version does play .mov files.

It's funny, I am able to view an mov file just fine on my mac, but when I opened it on my PC running Windows 10, I only get sound, but no video.

A mac volition play mov files since it's an apple video format

Even if QuickTime installed it's got vulnerabilities in Windows, and is no longer supported. So it wont go updated once more
